    For delicious cooking, I would recommend switching from non-stick Teflon pans to American-made Lodge cast iron pans. This is exactly what we did about three years ago, and have never regretted our decision. We are so pleased with our Lodge pans– with their performance, the quality and solid heft of the pans, and the intense flavors of the food made in them. The little amount of work needed to maintain the seasoning of the pans is worth the added flavor derived from these sturdy and long-lasting relics. There is a reason that these are what your grandma used!

    We have all heard of the dangers of the chemicals used in Teflon or other non-stick pans. If you leave the pan on the fire too long or on too high of a flame, they can release these dangerous chemicals into the air or into your food! The reason that we switched is because we got pet birds, and the chemicals when released into the air can actually kill the birds. Since that is the case, just imagine what kind of negative buildup is happening in your own body.

    Lodge cast iron pans come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and have lids available that fit certain sizes universally. They are all conveniently pre-seasoned. Not only are there basic sizes and shapes available, but there are also unusual and non-traditional items being produced, such Aebleskiver pans for making Danish pancake balls, the tortilla press, and the grill press for making panini sandwiches. Next on my Lodge wish list is the the griddle, the muffin pan, and the Deep Camp Dutch Oven (it has legs for putting it directly in the hot coals of a campfire).

    We have a small pan (8”) for making one or two fried eggs at a time, or for heating up hot dogs or sausages. Our next size up is a medium pan (10.25”) that works well as an every day pan– we make everything in it, and it all tastes great! Omelettes, sauteed vegies, seasoned ground meat for tacos or pasta, scrambled eggs– it handles it all well with minimal sticking. We bake cakes and quick breads in it and get a wonderful carmelized bottom; my favorites being pineapple upside down cake & jalepeno cheddar cornbread. Our largest pan (12”) comes in handy on pancake day, when we have guests over, are making a stirfry, or a frittata in the oven. We also have a 5-quart Dutch Oven that has a 10.25”lid that fits nicely on our medium pan. We use our kettle often for soups, stews, curries, and even for baking bread. The more we use them, the better the food turns out as the seasoning keeps getting richer and more flavorful. Between our three
    pans, one pot, and one lid, it seems that we can make just about anything with no trouble.

    You can customize your Lodge pan collection, as we did, or you can save some money by picking up a set. Lodge also produces and sells a number of accessories to go along with your cast iron pans, such as scrapers, mitts, camp tables, and even cookbooks.

    Enjoy your new Lodge pans! This is a long-lasting treasure that you will be able to pass down to your children, and they will be able to pass to theirs.
